Sarah Shingleton > Visit to Mojandita - they are prospering since the last visit!
Sarah Shingleton > Lord over all of us, look down upon our efforts today with pleasure, and where we fall short, may all our endeavors contain the spirit of compassion, humility and love. Help us to learn from these people Lord, to see with the hearts of these children who smile in the midst of disease and poverty and who are grateful for the gift of a pencil......
Sarah Shingleton > The Dental Team consisted of 2 dentists, a translator, and 2 helpers/instrument cleaners. They had the most difficult time. The portable dental chair was stuck in Ecuadorian customs, so they had to rely on lawn chairs. Needless to day, it was straining on the dentists' backs. They saw patients for 8 days also. I believe that they performed about 80 fillings and 110 tooth extractions. They went to outlying clinics on Tuesday and Wednesday. Niether of these places had electricity, so the team could only do extractions. It was amazing how grateful the people were to have a tooth pulled.
Sarah Shingleton > The vision team consisted of one person and some donated glasses. Basically, the patients looked at an eye chart to determine if they were near or farsighted. They then tried on glasses until they found a pair that worked. The children loved the glasses. They wanted a pair so bad, even when they didn't really need any. Next year the plan is to take sunglasses also so the children have something to take. This is a picture of one of the MDs sporting a new pair of bifocals!
